**GREENBELT, United States, Oct. 16, 2026 —** NASA has published a new image from the Hubble Space Telescope of the galaxy NGC 1827.

NGC 1827 is an edge-on intermediate spiral. It lies roughly 37 million light-years away in the constellation Columba.[^1] The image was formally released by the agency on 16 October 2026.[^2]

**Space Nugget.** An edge-on galaxy is one we see from the side, so its disc of stars, gas and dust appears as a thin streak. Dark dust lanes along the middle mark where gas is dense enough to form new stars.
