BUDAPEST, Hungary, Oct 14 2026 - Hungarian amateur astronomer Tamás Maróti observed a previously unknown near-Earth asteroid during the night of 13 October 2026.[1] The Minor Planet Center officially recognised the discovery on 14 October 2026, assigning the provisional designation 2026 TM77.[2] This is the eighth confirmed asteroid find made by Maróti.[3] 2026 TM77 is classified as an Apollo group near-Earth asteroid, with an orbital period of 2.86 years around the Sun.[4] Professional sky survey programmes have reduced available discovery opportunities for amateur astronomers searching for asteroids.[5]
