WASHINGTON, US, Oct. 23, 2026 - NASA will conduct uncrewed lunar landing tests for both SpaceX and Blue Origin before selecting the lander for the 2028 Artemis IV crewed mission.[1] Selection will be based on vehicle readiness after Artemis III testing.[2] Artemis III is scheduled for summer 2027. The mission will launch four astronauts to low Earth orbit, and will run 14 to 17 days.[3] During Artemis III, NASA's Orion capsule will perform separate orbital docking tests. It will dock first with Blue Origin Blue Moon, then with SpaceX Starship.[4] NASA head Jared Isaacman stated on Friday that Artemis III will determine which lunar lander is selected for future crewed missions.[5]
